About the Artist

In most artists' bio pages, you usually see a resume' of all the prestigious art institutes in which that artist has learned at and trained from. Sometimes, you also get a listing of galleries that feature works from that artist. Well, that's not really me. My name is Jay Neidert and I am a rather simple guy. In fact, I am still trying to get used to actually being called an “artist”.
I, along with my wife and 3 children, live in a small town called Loretto, Tennessee. Although we are a long way from any famous art district, that hasn't discouraged my desire to become a successful oil painter.

Celestial Sun Lamp Gourd From a very early age, I have always enjoyed doing anything creative. Drawing, painting, building things, and anything else that promotes creativity. In most recent years, my painting consisted mostly of arts and craft items. I gathered inspiration from my mother-in-law, who being a successful acrylic artist, has handed down many paints and brushes to me over the years. I have also leaned on the advice of my Aunt, who has an art store here in Tennessee, and has made a living from her paintings and custom artwork in almost every medium that you can imagine.

I became a gourdhead, painting gourds of all shapes and sizes. To me, this was great. All gourds are different and each project could be tailored to the specific shape and size of the gourd.
One year, at a local Arts and Craft show, a fellow artist suggested that I try oil. In 2005, my interests turned to oil painting. I fell in love with the colors and textures of oil. There was no turning back. The compositions that I found myself wanting to paint just fit naturally with the classic look of oil. From that point forward, my focus has been on developing an oil painting style the fits me and the things I like to paint. To me, it's the simple things that make great paintings. It's in the way the the sunlight shows on the side of a building through the trees or in the plants of a small backyard patio. I truly believe that you can take something that may seem ordinary and make it extraordinary in an oil painting. Jay Neidert
I take great joy now in seeing the affects of my painting on my children. My oldest has already painted her first Holiday themed paintings. My middle child (son) was an "Artist" for career day at school this year, and my youngest insists on being right beside me, often with his coloring book and a TV tray, while I am at my desk painting. This is really what it is all about.

Everyone has a dream, mine is to have success at doing what I love to do and to be able to share my work through JaysArtCellar.com. Thank you for visiting my site and I hope you enjoy these paintings half as much as I enjoyed creating them. Thanks again.
